Iran thespians head to Shakespeare festival

An Iranian troupe has been selected to stage a Shakespearean performance at a venue in southern France.

The performance titled ‘King Lear according to Edmund’ will be performed with the Iranian thespians during the 18th edition of the Shakespeare Festival in the French commune of Tournon-sur-Rhône.

The Iranian troupe members are Shohreh Reayati and Meysam Razfar, and the play will be directed by Asghar Nuri, event organizers announced.

The play will be produced by Hassan Judaki.

Other troupes from Nepal, Colombia, Algeria and Italy will participate in the event, which will be held from July 29 to August 4.

Further details of the play ‘King Lear according to Edmund’ have yet to be released.

William Shakespeare’s ‘King Lear’ is a tragedy depicting the gradual descent into madness of the title character, after he disposes of his kingdom giving bequests to two of his three daughters based on their flattery of him, while bringing tragic consequences for all.
